So I've simply decided to recall ten sweet memories from this past week...
1. Dracen accidentally calling me Mommy twice. He started calling me Mom many moons ago and he says it many, many times in a day, let me tell you. I didn't let on that he slipped but I could not help smiling when he said, "Mommy..uh, I mean Mom!"
2. Just the week before last, I told y'all about my new found
3. Sitting in the sunroom a couple of days ago and looking up to see a bird had flown in the house. (The doggies are bad about pushing back in but I haven't been able to teach them to close the door back behind them.) I was about to panic, thinking it was going to fly off into the other part of the house but it perched on top of the door instead, cocked its little head, made eye contact with me and then flew on back outside. That doesn't happen every day!
4. Finally enjoying my first Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte of the year while out running errands on Wednesday. About time! It was worth every penny.
5. Finding some money in the pocket of my coat I just pulled out of the closet and wore for the first time this year. Love when that happens.
6. Reading The Spider and the Fly to Dracen at bedtime the night before Halloween. I've always had fun with that one and I know he is getting dangerously close to outgrowing bedtime stories.
7. Fishing all the Fun Sized M&M packs out of the bowl of Halloween candy I bought (for us...we don't get trick-or-treaters here) and heating them in the microwave to warm them just so before devouring every last one. In my defense, I spread it out over two days!
8. Gaining an hour. It always feels good to go through the house turning all the clocks back, knowing I'm about to get an extra hour of sleep! Sleep is my friend.
9. Having plenty of room to breathe in a pair of pants I drug out of the closet that I had outgrown last year. Happy dance.
10. Singing one of my all-time favorite hymns at church on Sunday, Marching to Zion.
It's the little things, ya know?
one of my co-teachers use to LOVE reading Spider and Fly to our kiddos. I'd never even heard of it until then which is shocking b/c I am obsessed with children's books. I love when they slip up and call you by the name of their younger days. I use to be Momma.
ReplyDeleteAwwwwww...I remember when my boys started calling me mom instead of mommy. I felt the same way as you when they would "slip up". :)
ReplyDeleteFinding money in a coat pocket...best.feeling.EVER!!!
My six-year-old has taken to calling me "Mother," which just sounds funny! He does it for a laugh, though.
ReplyDeleteHow clever of you to find a way to get hold of Downton Abbey Season 3! My mother-in-law has been watching it in the UK, but I've told her NO SPOILERS!! :)
You warm M & M's? I'm not going to be able to think about anything else for the rest of the night!
ReplyDeleteI always freeze my chocolates, but girl, you've got me thinking... plus you can do it while shrinking into smaller jeans!
ReplyDeleteM & M's in the microwave...you're a genius!:) It does kind of tug at the ol' heartstrings when your kids start calling you Mom...I remember well. I haven't sung Marching to Zion in many years in church...love that hymn. It was nice to know I had an extra hour of sleep...but I woke up two hours earlier than usual. Not a happy camper.
ReplyDeleteI love to find money in the pockets of coats the first time you put them on for the season!
ReplyDeleteHave a good week.
The mommy thing is so so sweet. We kind of missed the extra hour - still no school due to Sandy...
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you...it is the little things!! I love that you document these :) I haven't watched Downtown Abbey yet, but I may have to check it out and see what all the buzz is about. And M&M's in the microwave?! I've never done that before, but I'm a total chocaholic so I may have to try that as well.
ReplyDeleteKeep on with the bedtime stories!!! Never too old for those.
xo
I love all of these. I had a hard time getting my first pumpkin spice latte, too. It was ridiculous. And I love finding money in a pocket. Woot!
ReplyDeleteAnd WOOT! WOOT! on the pants.
Ellen
My 8 year old called me Mommy just this last weekend and I stopped and smiled at the name. They grow out of MOMMY way to fast.
ReplyDeleteWhat does warming up M&M's do? We have a ton of them here because someone just may have stopped at the store on Nov. 1st and bought them all on sale. *hanging head in shame*
Money in the jacket pocket- WOOHOO!!
Fitting into old jeans- WWWOOOOOOOOHHHOOOOOOOO!
And it's totally the little things. There is also a song that says "It's the little things that really piss me off." I find that to be true also. Makes me laugh everytime I get mad at my husband because those lyrics always go through my head.
I was enjoying all you memories then I got to the last one. We had Homecoming Sunday (they still do that in small towns) the other weekend and we sang some of the old hymns. We usually go to the contemporary service and sing more praise music. One of the old time selections that Sunday was a rousing "Victory in Jesus". It was so moving to sing it with my small town church crowd. I felt like it was a scene from a Hallmark movie.
ReplyDeleteYou've just had your first pumpkin spice latte? I hope it was glorious. I get that once a week as a special "Hey you survived another week" treat. It's doing nothing for my hips though.
ReplyDeleteOnce we had a squirrel in our house. Yup.
These are cute, and now I am off to dig some fun-size M&Ms from my kids' trick-or-treat bags...
ReplyDeleteThey dont sing the old Hymns enuff anymore. I aint against the new music but I love the old classics.
ReplyDeleteOh I love finding money in a coat pocket! And fitting jeans you thought you had outgrown! I have never heard of heating up M&M's...Great memories of the whole week!
ReplyDeleteIt is the little things!! Love this list. I never thought of warming up M&Ms-you are a genius!
